Frequently Asked Questions at Carmichael Clinic

Here you’ll find some of the most common questions we get from people who are booking their first appointment with us. If you can’t find the answer you are looking for here, please give us a call on 01565 750035 and we’ll be happy to answer any queries you have.

1. How do I make an appointment?

2. How much will it cost?

Appointments for physiotherapy and acupuncture at the clinic are £58, video consultations are £45 and home visits are £86.

Each appointment usually lasts for 45 minutes, except in the instances where insurance companies provide cover for a 30-minute session.

3. What do I wear?

We recommend loose clothing, or shorts and a t-shirt or vest top. In some cases, we may ask you to remove your clothing down to your underwear. This is because we need to be able to see and palpate the problematic area of your body to accurately assess your problem.

4. Do I need a GP referral?

No, you don’t. We can see you without a GP referral, although if you are wishing to claim the cost of your treatment from your insurance company then your insurer may require one. Please check your policy terms before you commence treatment.

5. Will my insurance company cover physiotherapy?

Many do, though you’ll need to check whether your individual policy covers you by contacting your insurance company. It’s not something we can do on your behalf.

Before you commence any treatment, some insurance companies request that you get a referral from your GP, while others assess you themselves over the phone.

If your insurance company agrees to cover the cost of your treatment, it should give you an authorisation number that you need to bring to your initial appointment.

6. What should I expect on the first visit?

In order to assess and diagnose your condition, we will firstly need to listen to a description of your problem to understand how it is affecting you. This often involves us asking detailed questions to enable us to gain a complete picture of what is going on.

We’ll ask you to undress around the affected area so we can carry out a physical examination. This will include a hands-on examination where we feel and manipulate the area, which is called palpation.

Once we have done this, we’ll give you a clear explanation of our findings. We’ll discuss your aims and agree realistic goals that we’ll work to achieve together, and then we will make our treatment recommendations.

7. Can I bring someone with me?

Yes of course, if it makes you feel more comfortable.

8. Are all the physiotherapists qualified?

All of our physiotherapists are members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Health and Care Professions Council, and our acupuncturist is registered with the British Acupuncture Council. Additionally, all of our complementary therapists are registered with their relevant professional bodies.

9. Do you offer home visits?

If you’re not mobile enough to attend an appointment at the clinic, our physiotherapists are able to visit you in your home.

This is arranged on a case-by-case basis and is at the discretion of your physiotherapist. If this is something you require, please contact our reception to discuss it.
