Neurological physiotherapy
Treating the physical symptoms of neurological conditions
With over 10 years of experience within the NHS and private care, our neurological specialist, Cathy Nancini, is here to help and support you in managing these physical symptoms. Her comprehensive understanding of how the combination, presentation and severity of these symptoms is unique to each person ensures she can create compassionate treatment plans centred around your goals and needs.
Your condition is as unique as you
The damage to the brain or spinal cord caused by neurological conditions can have negative effects on your balance, mobility, coordination and strength. When these changes reduce your independence or confidence in your own body, it can severely affect your mental wellbeing.
Cathy ensures that sufficient time is given to each of her patients, so she can listen and understand how you feel and how the condition affects your wellbeing and your life.
Whether you struggle with stairs, uneven floors or a lack of grip, making your daily chores difficult, Cathy will work with you to define your personal goals and help you achieve them through a bespoke treatment plan.
Assessments and treatments can take place wherever is best for you, whether that’s at the clinic, in your home, at a gym or in a combination of locations to help you achieve the best results.
Treatment plans are designed around your needs and preferences, and often include a combination of:
- Upper limb rehabilitation
- Constraint-induced movement therapy for arm weakness after a stroke
- Neurological Pilates
- Functional electrical stimulation
- Balance retraining
- Hydrotherapy
- Fall prevention
- Assistance equipment assessment and advice
- Foot drop assessment
- Walking re-education
- Strength and conditioning training
- Postural assessment
Why Our Clients Recommend us
My husband, aged 84, suffers with Parkinson’s, so his movements and mobility are difficult. In August 2022 he took a tumble, fracturing his femur resulting in surgery and hospitalisation. On his discharge, as I had used the Carmichael Clinic over a number of years myself, I had no hesitation in contacting them regarding treatment for my husband.
Cathy, their specialist Neurological physiotherapist, came to assess my husband at home and over the past seven months has worked so hard with him to regain his mobility. She has patiently worked with him and he is now able to climb the stairs, shower and dress independently and take short walks. He is also able to join me for luncheon trips and visits to garden centres. Most of all with Cathy’s help and guidance he has regained his lost confidence.
The clinic has a great team, which includes dedicated specialist physiotherapists, like Cathy.
